SECLUDED SETTING IN CALIFORNIA COASTAL REDWOODS

The mission of the Padmasambhava Peace Institute is to create a place for human and environmental restoration and to teach applied peace and compassion. We are an educational non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based at the Black Mountain Preserve, a beautiful 485-acre property set in the hills and forests overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in western Sonoma county.

We embrace a multi-disciplinary approach with short and long-term residential programs that help develop the skills of active compassion, non-violent communication and living in harmony with ourselves, others and the environment. The intention of the Padmasambhava Peace Institute is to awaken us and reconnect us to our own wisdom and compassion.

We welcome all sectors of the community to this retreat space for workshops, meetings, and for structured or informal study and practice. The Institute is home to a Buddhist lay community, and we regularly organise Buddhist events that are open to the public. We also host programs in environmental stewardship, health and cultural programs, and in the future will make provision for continuing education units.

The Peace Institute houses a conference hall, shrine room, a large fully-equipped commercial kitchen and dining room, spacious comfortable dormitories and private rooms. There are additional outdoor teaching and recreation areas. We are situated near Cazadero, about forty-five minutes from urban Santa Rosa, in a delightfully quiet and pristine location.

The Institute also organizes meditation classes in Santa Rosa on weekday evenings, under the direction of our spiritual director Jigme Tromge Rinpoche. All are welcome, and there is no charge for attendance. See the Events page for details.
